Carrefour - Farmers Empowerment

Carrefour, has organized a farmer empowerment camp in Kumbhawas village, Haryana, with an objective to impart training and knowledge on improving their crop yield and quality of the produce. This camp targeted 100-150 farmers of the village. The workshop included technical resource support by scientists on staple crops including Wheat, Gram, Mustard and Tomato. Facets of drip irrigation, climatic conditions, manure, fertilization and another session on marketing and best practices techniques were discussed. As a result of these sessions, farmers have been able to make their crops more disease resistant, thereby improving their marketing yield. Further, Carrefour India will begin working closely with the farmers of Teekli Village in Haryana, thereby, organizing several camps in the state.

With an aim to reach out to more than 600 farmers of which 300 are women farmers, Carrefour aims to train women farmers to increase the production of high value crops like Cherry Tomatoes Bell Peppers, Broccoli, Cucumber, Bottle Gourd, etc. In addition, Carrefour will educate women farmers on proper cropping process, harvesting and marketing concepts, packaging and storage for fresh products.
